Today I am going to write about the importance of probiotics.
I have been taking probiotics for years and believe that for optimal gut health, they are essential. There are a few different strands of probiotics and they can be found in different forms. According to WebMD, they treat IBS, IBD, diarrhea caused by bad bacteria, viruses, parasites or antibiotics.
Probiotics help clear up your skin, prevent colds and allergies, promote oral health, urinary and vaginal health.
Basically, anywhere bad bacteria can accumulate, good bacteria is essential to fight the effects the bad bacteria can have on your body.
My moto is, healthy gut = healthy body.
My go to probiotics come in pill form from Supreme Nutrition but there are lots of ways to add probiotics to your daily meals.
- Yogurt
- Sauerkraut
- Miso - I add this to marinades for meat/chicken)
- Pickles (make your own pickled vegetables)
- Kombucha
Body Tip: I was asked to provide daily stretches, here are some you can do on a chair, on the side of the bed or couch, tomorrow I will post stretches to do on a mat or on the floor.
Face Tip:
Face, neck and shoulder massage: So important to help relax tension from the face, you probably don’t even know you are holding it there...
Food Tip:
Artichokes!
I love artichokes, especially ala roma ones that cost as fortune here in Israel but, I also appreciate boiled artichokes that you can pluck the leaves and eat the heart, it's a great past time and it's super healthy especially in the spring time.
What makes artichokes an important staple during the spring season?
First of all, artichokes are low in fat, high in fiber, and loaded with vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, phosphorus, and magnesium. They are also one of the richest sources of antioxidants. All of these things are super important always, especially these days when allergy season is starting up and there are other things flying around making people sick.
In addition, artichokes are great for liver health. In chinese medicine, spring time brings on liver ailments. Being stuck at home and having added stressors can also cause our liver to stagnate and make us extremely irritable. Making sure our liver stays healthy can keep us in a better mood, help us fight the allergy season upon us and keep our bodies strong to fight whatever is thrown our way.
So, stay tuned for tomorrow's tips on keeping healthy (in the times of Corona?) and always.
And remember,
Breathe.
